Bob has retired from his current role as Superintendent of Unadilla Valley Central School District, where he closed out his 34 years in education. He is pleased to be joining the team at Building Better Futures! He earned his Bachelor of Science in Social Science Secondary Education and Political Science, and began teaching high school social studies right away. He earned a Master of Arts in Education Development and School Administration from Vermont College of Norwich University in 1992, and began his administrative career in 1994 at the Oxford Academy and Central Schools as their Director of Special Programs. Five years later, he became the Building Principal at Downsville Central School, then their Superintendent in 2001. He moved into his current position as Superintendent at Unadilla Valley in 2007 and has remained there for 14 years. As a lifelong learner, Bob continues to focus on his own professional learning and growth by taking graduate courses and attending workshops to improve his teaching, coaching, and instructional leadership skills.
The power of education lies in our capacity to always be a learner, in our willingness to experiment, and to take collective action.
This is a concept Bob has wholeheartedly believed in and practiced throughout his entire career in education. As a social studies teacher, he was very non-traditional and creative in the strategies he used to ensure that all students learned at high levels. His belief in these concepts remained at the core of his actions as a superintendent.
The roots of service and work that were modeled and encouraged by his parents and mentors have greatly impacted his life and career, forging his passion for creating an environment where everyone flourishes today, tomorrow, and beyond.
As a teacher, coach, and leader, he has dedicated all of his efforts toward ensuring that all students graduate from high school proficient or beyond in the skills necessary to be career and college ready.
